Greyhound Blues

(from the Ed Clay archives)

Tires up ass
Fast fading
Who is we
cascading
Rolling on
lampshading
Where ya coming from

No two can be the same.
Auto - car and Reo
Diamond
What is in a name

Bustin’ ass
Smoking grass
Such a claim to fame
Rolling down that crazy road
Taking all the blame

Friendship real and
solid
Never time for that
Just back roads
and alleyways
Roaming like a cat

Wanderin’ like a
crazy man
Jest where it’s all at
Eighteen wheels
million reels
Faith is where it’s at

Headlights are a ‘beaming
Gals in every one
Burning just like
fire
In a setting sun
Gotta keep on rollin’
Find that special one

(da da da)
Da
Da
Da

Eighteen-wheeler
Hiway that lonesome whine
Hear the chime
Broken boots
Broken roots
Ticking out of time
Sometimes late at
night
Ya think ya hear the
rhyme
Oftentimes you plainly see
There’s no further ye can climb
A truck is just
a woman

Rollercoaster
ride
Tired – dead
inside
Guilt like a quilt
I found you
I just don’t know
Just this instant
Who be killing who
